HitmanPro Trial Reset

Posted on

Is there an alternative to Hitman Pro? I'm working on a friend's computer, and the option for 30 day free trial isn't available. It's possible that because it's his work computer that it believes it to be on a domain, but I have it here at home, so I'm not sure. ( The EULA states that business users MUST purchase a license)

I'm trying to get rid of what I think is the Zero Access Surefef Rootkit, as Windows defender can't be turned on and consequently, it won't allow ANY downloads in I.E.10, When downloading anything, it terminates and says the file has a virus and was deleted. The machine also had AVG Antivirus, which also sometimes causes that, but I've removed it. (Chrome allows downloading, but only after a registry change affecting attachments)

Hitman Pro does finds Window defender 'redirects', plus a folder in the 'recyler' folder that has a trojan, but obviously I can't remove or fix anything without either the free 30 day trial or purchasing the product. And until Windows defender can start again, downloading in IE10 is not possible.

So, is there a workaround or a product as good as Hitman Pro? (For Win 7 64 bit)

Thank you.

HitmanPro Trial Reset

HitmanPro 3 (64-bit) doesn't claim to be the primary solution for your PC security needs, but it does add another layer of malware protection and what the publishers describe as a 'second opinion' to see if your computer is infected and help you remove any unwanted files.

Trial

Pros

Plays nicely with others: HitmanPro 3 doesn't need to be installed to work but even when we opted for installation, there were no issues with our current antivirus program.

Quick scans: The initial scan took less than three minutes, and even though it will vary from PC to PC, that's a quick turnaround.

Cons

Settings: As soon as you open HitmanPro, there's a Next button, which immediately starts the scan. You'll have to change any default settings you don't want before you hit that button because there's no way to alter any settings once it initiates the scan. It's not a big drawback, but some software allows you to decide whether to automatically upload files to the cloud or scan your computer every day at startup before initiating the first scan.

Bottom Line

There's nothing wrong with checking up on your antivirus software, and HitmanPro makes an easy job of it. You'll have 30 days to evaluate the software with full functionality (scan and remove), and then it only allows you to scan.

Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of HitmanPro 3 (64-bit) 3.7.9.232.
